RISK CDT - New Approaches for Modelling and Simulation in Nuclear Power Plants

This is a project within the multi-disciplinary EPSRC and ESRC Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) on Quantification and Management of Risk & Uncertainty in Complex Systems & Environments, within the Institute for Risk and Uncertainty. The studentship is granted for 4 years and includes, in the first year, a Master in Decision Making under Risk & Uncertainty. The project includes extensive collaboration with prime industry to build an optimal basis for employability.
Updating the currently available nuclear reactor modelling and simulation programs is one of the key issues for a successful nuclear renaissance in the UK. This work will create an innovative contribution to the development of the UK national program in Digital Nuclear Reactor Design improving the modelling and simulation of future reactors. It will be performed in close co-operation with specialists at the University of Liverpool, Virtual Engineering Centre and industrial partners to assure good guidance and understanding of the industrial demand for improved software solutions. The work will be performed at the inter-connection between modern software development and nuclear reactor technologies with access to advanced high performance computing and virtual engineering technologies
The PhD Studentship (Tuition fees + stipend of £ 14,553 annually over 4 years) is available for Home/EU students. In addition, a budget for use in own responsibility will be provided.
