About the Project

The ongoing modern slavery regulations (such as the UK Modern Slavery Act 2015, Australian Modern Slavery Act, 2018) appear quite broad and setting minimum (and to some extent voluntary) transparency and accountability requirements, leave discretion to both businesses and public sector organisations to comply with the regulations and public expectation. Our research team is investigating how businesses (corporations) are engaged in eliminating modern slavery in response to the new webs of transparency regulations as well as Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for modern slavery (SDG 5.2 and SDG 8.7). We are also interested in examining how civil society organisations, NGOs and their partnerships hold businesses and government organisations accountable to create transparency in relation to the process of eliminating modern slavery.
