About the Project

The Astronautics and Robotics Laboratory (https://www.astrolabresearch.com/) at Clarkson University explores advanced concepts and performs innovative and transformative research in science and engineering. ASTRO Lab trains high-quality researchers and engineers, develops new technologies, and provides novel solutions to problems in astronautics, robotics, and society.

Research into orbital dynamics and control of spacecraft is essential to the success of any mission. ASTRO Lab investigates the optimization of orbital trajectories and develops novel control techniques for transfer, rendezvous, hovering, and landing approaches for spacecraft.

Currently, ASTRO Lab is seeking graduate students for research projects in orbital mechanics, attitude dynamics and control for satellite formations in Earth orbit under the supervision of Prof. Michael Bazzocchi. Applicants should have experience in the aforementioned areas, with additional experience in the areas of orbital station-keeping, collision avoidance and debris removal advantageous. Applicants should demonstrate proficiency in technical writing, applicants with publications in well-recognized journals and conferences are preferred. Prospective students should also have experience in computer programming and using relevant engineering software (e.g., MATLAB, STK, GMAT). Experience in CAD software is also an asset.

Clarkson University’s International Center will provide visa support in the event the selected candidate is a non-US citizen.

Clarkson University is a private, national research University leading in technological education and sustainable economic development. Clarkson offers graduate programs in Arts & Sciences, Business, Education, Engineering, and Health Sciences, with onsite, online and hybrid modes of study. We educate 4,300 students and pursue interdisciplinary research, scholarship and innovation.

Clarkson’s main campus is located in Potsdam, New York, on the historic 640-acre wooded homestead of the Clarkson family in the foothills of the Adirondack Park.
