About the Project

NDCS-funded project, comprising a 6-year READY study of 500 deaf young people moving on to college, university and work

Moray House School of Education and Sport is delighted to offer a studentship to PhD Education applicants commencing October 2019. This longitudinal READY study of deaf young people is a significant 6-year research project, funded by the National Deaf Children’s Society in collaboration with SORD, University of Manchester. It is linked to the Scottish Sensory Centre.

The project’s focus is on the pathways to adulthood for a wide diversity of deaf young people and explores outcomes concerning employment, education, wellbeing and autonomy. The PhD will be embedded within the wider programme of research in the mixed methods READY Study. The multi-disciplinary team spanning the University of Edinburgh and University of Manchester includes researchers drawn from Education, Social Science, Psychology and Deaf Studies. This studentship will be supervised at the University of Edinburgh.

Funding Notes

The studentship covers the UK/EU rate of tuition fees and a stipend at research council rates: £2,164 and £7,500 respectively for 2019-20. This is a part-time 6-year PhD programme. The award is tenable for six years subject to satisfactory academic progress.

Applicants for PhD Education (part-time), due to commence their studies 1 October 2019, may apply. Applications are welcome from Home/EU/Overseas students but applicants should be aware of any visa restrictions that may make them ineligible to study part-time.
