Funded PhD Project (Students Worldwide)
About the Project
EPSRC ICASE PhD at Queen’s University Belfast and BT
Proposed Project Title:
Self-Healing Network against Cyber Attacks (EPSRC ICASE with BT)
Principal Supervisor: Dr. Sandra Scott-Hayward
Project Description:
An exciting PhD opportunity in the Network Security Group at Queen’s University Belfast, Northern Ireland. You will work alongside our world-leading industrial partner, BT, in developing future networks resilient to attack.
The vision of future networks is to automatically orchestrate network services to meet customer demands guaranteeing performance and security. In current network deployments, performance guarantees can be provided based on load balancing techniques and application-specific quality-of-service commitments. However, we cannot “guarantee” security
.
The goal of this PhD project is to explore techniques to optimize the security profile of the network and enable the network to self-heal in the case of attack or security breach, while maintaining the performance guarantees.
Whilst the PhD is based at Queen’s University Belfast, you will also be embedded within BT, working alongside
their researchers and practitioners, with industrial placement (anticipated 6 months per year) at BT, based in Adastral Park, Ipswich.
Eligibility Requirements:
We are seeking an excellent, highly motivated candidate with a 1st Class honours undergraduate degree or MSc Distinction (or international equivalent) in Computer Science or Engineering. Experience of programming is essential.
The award is available to UK/EU applicants only. Depending on how you meet the EPSRC’s eligibility criteria (https://epsrc.ukri.org/skills/students/guidance-on-epsrc-studentships/eligibility/), you may be entitled to a full or a partial award.
