About the Project

The student will be joining part of a large interdisciplinary team working on the Leverhulme Trust funded project "Shape-Transforming Active Microfluidics", led by Dr Tom Montenegro-Johnson, which will comprise around 4 PhD students, 4 Postdoctoral Research Associates, and an Artist in Residence. This is a listing for 1 studentship in either Experimental work, Numerics, or Theory, focusing on the following areas:

1. Soft 3D printing of thermoresponsive polymers (experiment).
2. Microfluidics with shape-change elements (experiment).
3. Fluid-structure interaction modelling of hydrogel composites with chemically active components (theory).
4. Large scale multiphysics modelling (numerics).

Please apply via the University of Birmingham online system (course: PhD Applied Mathematics) for a start date of September 2021.

Funding Notes

Complete funding is available for UK/EU students,
Partial (approx 60%) funding available for international students, with possibility to top up.
