Background

The University is pleased to announce an exciting PhD studentship opportunity within the RISE (Research into the Space Economy) research Group (https://www.gcu.ac.uk/aboutgcu/academicschools/gsbs/research/research-into-the-space-economy3 ) in the field of Space Economy. This project will focus on studying the evolving space tourism market, examining the factors that drive demand for space travel experiences, and analysing the various business models employed by companies in the sector. The research would involve identifying key players, market segmentation, and trends, as well as evaluating the feasibility and profitability of different business models in the context of space tourism.

The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Professor David Edgar and be part of a vibrant research community. The project will involve:

•            Comprehensive literature review and market analysis of the space tourism sector, including key players, market segmentation, and trends.

•            Investigating factors that influence the demand for space tourism, such as consumer preferences, technological advancements, and regulatory environments.

•            Analysing the various business models employed by space tourism companies, including their strategies, competitive advantages, and challenges.

•            Evaluating the feasibility and profitability of different business models in the context of space tourism.

•            Developing recommendations for the sustainable growth and development of the space tourism industry

How to Apply

This project is available as a 3 years full-time or 6 years part-time PhD study programme with expected start date of 02 October 2023.

Candidates should have a minimum of a first degree (2:1 or higher) and/or a Masters degree.
