About the Project

With athletes training near their physiological maximum identifying the most effective and efficient pathways of skill development and physical preparation is desirable. Linking these findings to coach education, athlete centred support and talent identification are key to ensure ecological validity permeate the research. Based on the principles of training and underpinned by the biomechanics of human movement and concepts of motor control this research programme will aim to examine the fundamental determinants of performance and explore effective skill and physical development methods in elite athletics. The overall purpose of the research is to gain an insight into the key performance indicators that can be used to develop athlete-centred training programmes in order to improve performance.

A detailed research proposal will be developed that ensures maximum impact in the area as well as producing high quality scientifically grounded research.
