About the Project

The project: Established firms are known to reap many benefits from publishing and to play an important role for the accumulation of scientific knowledge. Examples in artificial intelligence (e.g. Deepmind) or biotechnology (e.g. Biontech) show that startups can be central to both the commercialization and development of key scientific and technological advancements. Startups contribute to many societal and technological advancements, and are often in a position to make strong contributing to the scientific literature. We set to explore three broad themes: (1) Attention received by startup publications, (2) Language of startup publications, and (3) Startup scientists.
