About the Project
The project will involve processing and characterisation of ceramic coatings for high temperature applications. The student is expected to join a large research teams of more than 20 researchers in University of Manchester to study ceramic coatings for aero-engine and nuclear power generation applications. The focus of the study is to develop the ceramic coatings for a long term application in demanding environments, where degradation and failure mechanisms of the coatings will be investigated. During his/her study, various characterisation techniques available in both University of Manchester and Henry Royce Institute of Advanced Materials will be used to examine the coatings. The objective of the study is to establish microstructure-property-performance relationship of the coatings and to design coatings with enhanced performance in demanding environments.
Applicants should hold or expect to obtain a first or upper-second class honours degree or equivalent in Materials engineering. A Master’s degree in one of the above fields would be advantageous.
Applicants should submit their CV and a covering letter, including full contact details of two referees, to Prof Ping Xiao firstname.lastname@example.org /
