This research activity will be focused on creating new nanophotonic devices based on 2D materials including (but not limited to) graphene, boron nitride and transition metal dichalcogenides . The candidate will study quantum confinement and band structure engineering of carriers and excitons in 2D and van der Waals materials using a patterned gate substrate, which can achieve nanometer-level features thanks to a new nanofabrication process. Funding for this position is provided by the European Research Council trough the 2020 Starting Grant “SubNanoOptoDevices’’
Requirements: a degree in materials science, engineering, or physics, with a strong interest in solid state physics, nanomaterials, experimental optics and optoelectronics. Work experience within a micro/nano-fabrication facility will be positively considered. A working knowledge of Python or Matlab programming is desirable.
