About This PhD Project

Project Description

Organizing of individual molecular machines into regular 2-D assemblies is a promising route towards a new generation of smart materials. For example, arrangement of unidirectional molecular motors into densely packed two-dimensional films may lead to amplification of their functions and such materials could be in theory used as novel propulsion systems. The aim of this strongly interdisciplinary project involves design and synthesis of a novel generation of unidirectional light-driven molecular motors that will be then used to form regular and tightly packed 2-D films on various surfaces. Such 2-D assemblies will be subsequently studied using various analytical techniques. This project spans over several fields of chemistry – from organic, through surface to physical.

How to apply

To apply for a PhD study at IOCB Prague, you must hold a Master’s degree (MSc) or the equivalent of the MSc in similar field (four or five year undergraduate degree). The application can be submitted before obtaining the Master’s degree, however, the applicant should obtain the degree within five months after the application deadline.
