About the Project

This research program will illustrate new design strategies to synthesise ambiphilic molecules that contain both electrophilic (Lewis acidic) and nucleophilic (Lewis basic) sites that may be employed as catalysts (known as Frustrated Lewis Pairs).

This new route will offer a modular design to develop main group catalysts that may surpass the activity of previously reported. The innovative synthetic approaches will enable the one-pot syntheses of complex (in)organic structures which is anticipated to be widely recognised. This project will provide state-of-the-art approaches to synthesise FLPs and the compounds generated will be tested in metal-free catalytic hydrogenation, carbon dioxide utilisation and C-H activation reactions.

Academic criteria: We require applicants to have a 2.2 BSc or equivalent to be considered for PhD study.
