About the Project

This project will investigate the synthesis of indoles with antibacterial activity through the use of a novel approach.

Initial test molecules will be investigated in terms of solubility profile and will be fully characterised prior to testing for antibacterial activity across a panel of Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria including antibacterial resistant strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Investigations to determine the extent (if any) that active compounds can inhibit or disrupt biofilm formation will also be undertaken. Additionally, compounds with antibacterial activity will be investigated for cytotoxic activity, necessary if they are to potentially be used to treat both human and veterinary infection.
