About the Project

This PhD project will focus on (organic) synthesis and assembly of new Porphyrin analogues. It will take recent developments in our lab for synthesis of components and aim to extend the protocols to deliver unprecedented materials. A major part of the study will involve investigation of unsymmetrical systems and higher-order assemblies, and in particular it will focus on the controlled synthesis of new classes of aromatic macrocycles that are relatives of the important phthalocyanines and porphyrins. Such materials are particularly topical at the present time because they potentially have enhanced properties such as broad absorption across the whole solar spectrum.


Funding Notes

A bench fee is also payable on top of the tuition fee to cover specialist equipment or laboratory costs required for the research. Applicants should contact the primary supervisor for further information about the fee associated with the project.
