About the Project

Demand for energy supply in the present global environment is continuously increasing with the growth of population and economic development. This poses problems both in terms of sustainability and carbon emissions. These may be mitigated by the use of biomass feedstocks, either alone or mixed with coal, along with the implementation of carbon capture and storage. The aim of this project is to use the IECM and gPROMS process modelling package to construct techno-economic process models of the use of biomass and coal/biomass mixtures in power generation, specifically, but not exclusively in the context of feedstock gasification for use in Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) power plants.
