Introduction:
Coventry University (CU) is inviting applications from suitably-qualified graduates for a fully-funded PhD studentship for 3.5 years. The successful applicant will work under the supervision of Dr Miguel Farias (Coventry University) and Dr Inti Brazil (Radboud University), The student will undertake training at both universities. This position is open to candidates regardless of nationality (UK/EU/International). There is additional funding for travel to and accommodation at Radboud University. The studentship is associated with a research grant funded by the Templeton World Charity Foundation.
Candidates should have a background in experimental psychology or cognitive science, be experienced in the use of statistical techniques, and have an interest in the science of meditation. The successful candidate will be part of a multidisciplinary team which will conduct a novel intervention to test the efficacy of two types of religious heart-focused meditations, compared to active and passive control groups. The PhD candidate will learn a variety of procedures, including the use of psychophysiological and social experimental techniques, and will undertake an intervention of 8 weeks with 3 testing times. There will be additional support for recruitment and testing of participants.

Entry criteria for applicants to PhD
· A bachelor’s (honours) degree in a relevant discipline/subject area with a minimum classification of 2:1 and a minimum mark of 60% in the project element (or equivalent), or an equivalent award from an overseas institution.
PLUS
· the potential to engage in innovative research and to complete the PhD within 4 years
· An adequate proficiency in English must be demonstrated by applicants whose first language is not English. The general requirement is a minimum overall IELTS Academic score of 7.0 with a minimum of 6.5 in each of the four sections, or the TOEFL iBT test with a minimum overall score of 95 with a minimum of 21 in each of the four sections.
