About the Project

In the last decade, there has been a growing interest in textual analysis on the linguistic characteristics of financial disclosures, such as the tone (sentiment), readability, and attribution of financial performance. I am interested in supervising the above and other related textual analysis topics in accounting and finance. Students need to have a background in accounting and / or finance although some economics students may fit this topic as well. The goal of PhD from this topic is to develop multiple potentially publishable papers in reputed accounting and finance journals. The papers submitted to journals will be co-authored by the student and thesis supervisors. If students require training on basic statistical analysis or accounting information, such classes may be arranged. Students will also be provided the knowledge of working in basic textual analysis software and will have the opportunity to attend textual analysis workshops (in UK). Potentially publishable papers will also have the opportunity to be presented in reputable accounting and finance conferences and seminars, including the British Accounting and Finance Association (BAFA) Conference and Doctoral Colloquiums.
