About the Project

Thunderstorm downbursts are relatively short-lived, extreme winds which can result in wind speeds matching those of medium-strength tornadoes. Next to tornadoes, downbursts have received relatively little attention and very little is known about their frequency of occurrence, size and strength. As such, they have not been incorporated into the design process to the same extent as other winds. To aid this process, the current research aims to establish downburst wind speed maps for the UK and other countries.

The University of Birmingham is looking to recruit a highly motivated graduate with an engineering or mathematical background. You will be working alongside a highly experienced team who are known for the quality of their research and creative approach to problem solving. Applicants are encouraged to contact Greg Kopp ([Email Address Removed]) or Mark Sterling ([Email Address Removed]) or Mike Jesson ([Email Address Removed]) for an informal discussion.
