Project Description

Our lab uses cutting-edge combinations of neuroimaging and analytic techniques to investigate aspects of human cognition. Specifically, we’re interested in the following: brain-based mechanisms that underlie attention and working memory; how brain regions communicate during attention and working memory including under conditions of internally- and externally-generated interference; how information held in working memory might be represented in different ways and states in the brain. We also conduct studies using concurrent TMS-fMRI to investigate brain connectivity causally. For this, we have a state-of-the-art experimental setup at the University of Reading, to apply TMS simultaneously during scanning, and national and international collaborations with mathematics and engineering experts in the analysis of functional connectivity, for sophisticated investigations of data generated with this approach. Other experimental techniques that we have available include two linked TMS machines for multi-region (EEG compatible) TMS, Brainsight for accurate targeting of TMS; MR-compatible tDCS/tACS/tRNS. The lab therefore has the capability for exciting and ground-breaking studies that can probe the human brain and behaviour in unique ways.
