The Dementia Assistive Smart Kitchen (DASK): The Development of Ambient Intelligence Systems for Independence in the Home (AUNGHU20SCIEC)

Project Description

Artificial Intelligence combined with the Internet of Things has led to intelligent monitoring in everyday settings. This emerging field of Ambient Intelligence has wide-ranging benefits particularly in domestic care. The successful candidate will lead the development of the Dementia Assistive Smart Kitchen. This system will sense physical events actioned by people with dementia and automatically determine whether an intended task is unsuccessful, thus triggering corrective interventions for greater independence and safety.

This project will be conducted under the supervision of Dr Min Hane Aung in the School of Computing Sciences and within the Norwich Electronic Assistive Technology Home at the University of East Anglia. The successful candidate will gain valuable experience in several transformative areas of computer science.

Applicants should have some background in machine learning, computer vision and/or machine listening, ubiquitous sensing or other related fields. Experience in human-computer interaction and digital health is also desirable.
