About the Project

The purpose of this research project is to investigate the shopping experience of disabled customers. The research aims are to investigate the phenomena by answering (a) what is the shopping experience of disabled customers? (b) how do marketers make sense of disabled customers shopping experiences? Based on an exploratory sequential mixed method design, this research will investigate the dynamics of the disabled customer market where data will be collected through two sequential phases: qualitative phase and quantitative phase. To facilitate an in-depth understanding of the shopping experience of disabled customers and marketers overview of their services, 15 disabled customers and 15 marketers will be recruited for focus group interviews. Based on the findings from phase 1, a set of questions will be designed in phase 2 and the findings of phase 1 will be validated, employing a quantitative design survey method. A questionnaire will be piloted, and the final version will be administered to 600 disabled customers. This research will contribute to a better understanding of the shopping experience of the customer with disabilities and ultimately that would aid marketers in developing a disability inclusion marketing strategy.
