Mental ill-health is the leading cause of sickness absence in the UK, accounting for 70-million sick days each year (HSE, 2019). It is also an important feature in presenteeism, contributing to a loss in productivity and efficiency.
Our proposed research seeks to develop and evaluate a contemporary mindfulness-based Rational Emotive Behaviour Coaching (REBC) intervention aimed at improving worker resilience and mental wellbeing. In doing so we will examine a novel approach to worker coaching, mentoring and awareness raising, whilst providing unique ethnographic evidence on the efficacy of the intervention and its impact on resilience, wellbeing and productivity via longitudinal examination.
The programme of research will draw upon ethnographic and applied research methods.
1. Develop a mindfulness-based REBC intervention to enhance wellbeing, resilience and productivity, which can be delivered within the real-world constraints of organisations and the workplace
2. Evaluate the longitudinal effects of the intervention on worker wellbeing, resilience and productivity
3. Adopt an ethnographic approach to understand changes in participants’ responses and day-to-day experiences as they progress through the intervention
