About the Project

The German Primate Center (DPZ) – Leibniz Institute for Primate Research is one of 96 research and infrastructure establishments of the Leibniz Association. It conducts basic biological and biomedical research in all fields in which non-human primates play essential roles: in particular in infection research, the neurosciences, and organismic primate biology. Besides its research infrastructure in Göttingen, the DPZ maintains four field stations to do research on and with primates (http://www.dpz.eu/en/aboutus/profile/mission.html).

The “Cognitive Hearing in Primates” lab is looking for an excellent PhD Student (m/f/div)

We are seeking an outstanding PhD student to join our team dedicated to advancing research in hearing and hearing rehabilitation. The successful candidate will combine behavioral and electrophysiological experiments with non-human primates. In particular, the project will focus on investigating the neural processing of artificial stimulation of the auditory pathway using innovative cochlear implants in common marmosets.

We offer:

We are a motivated team of international scientists and, in addition to a diverse range of tasks, we offer an excellent working atmosphere and a well-equipped work environment. The “CHiP” lab is also embedded within the Institute for Auditory Neuroscience and the Else Kröner Fresenius Center for Optogenetic Therapies at the University Medical Center Göttingen. In this setting, we study basic and cognitive processes of hearing as well as communication in common marmoset monkeys. Further, we explore innovative possibilities for restoring hearing.

Your profile:

  • Master / diploma or equivalent (or close to completion) in a relevant field (e.g. neuroscience, biology, biomedical engineering, psychology)
  • Passion for hearing research and rehabilitation
  • Experience with non-human primates, behavioral experiments, and/or in-vivo electrophysiology
  • Strong quantitative, programming, and experimental skills
  • Empathetic, with the highest ethical standards in animal research
  • Structured, self-organized, and capable of working independently with responsibility

If you are passionate about groundbreaking research and enjoy working in a collaborative and dynamic environment, we would love to hear from you!
