Dundalk Institute of Technology - Regulated Research Software Centre
Project Description
Keywords: Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Evolutionary Robotics
The development of UAVs using flight simulators and machine learning (ML) algorithms requires dovetailing of both types of systems. The ideal testbed should hide the complexity of integrating and manipulating complex systems such as flight simulators and ML algorithms. Instead of that, they should offer them a user-friendly environment to simulate fleets of autonomous, self-coordinating UAVs.
This research proposal has the following aims and objectives.
· To develop a distributed and scalable simulation testbed for UAVs that can take advantage of the newly emerging high-performance computing technologies such as cloud computing and big data.
· To develop a framework for integrating UAV simulation software with various machine learning software for agile development of controllers for UAVs.
· The proposed testbed shall itself be general-purpose. To this end, it shall be able to develop fleets of intelligent UAVs for any user-specified problem.
