Project Description

Colorectal cancer is one of the most common diseases in the developed world and a major cause of cancer deaths. Studies suggest that sulforaphane is a potential anti-cancer agent able to inhibit both cancer initiation and progression by affecting cell proliferation, differentiation and apoptosis. Many of these processes depend on microtubules and the aims of this project are to study the effect of sulforaphane on microtubule dynamics and organisation during gut organoids development. The gut epithelium is continually being renewed and goes through cycles of cell division, migration, differentiation and apoptosis and the in vitro gut organoid model closely mimics in vivo gut morphogenesis.

Funding Notes

This PhD studentship is funded by Big C for three years. Funding is available to UK/EU applicants only and comprises of payment of tuition fees and an annual stipend of £14,057.

Applicants should hold at least a 2:1 first degree in either Biomedicine, Biological Sciences, or related subjects.
