The Energy, Petroleum, Mineral & Natural Resources Law and Policy Education Trust (The Trust) together with CEPMLP, acknowledges the importance of advancing knowledge on the law and governance of the energy and resources sector for sustainable futures.
As part of the support the Trust provides to education, we are delighted to announce that we are offering one fully funded PhD Scholarship in an area aligned to one of the Centre’s research interests: Does International Investment Arbitration have a Future in a World of Growing Insularity and Nationalism? This area of research covers the following themes:
1. The interface between bilateral tax treaties and bilateral investment treaties in resource rich countries, and the impacts on revenue collection;
2. International investment law, human rights, and the rule of law;
3. The relative advantages of arbitration, mediation and litigation in relation to energy investment disputes.
4. The management of corruption allegations in international arbitration; lessons learnt in cases of investments in energy and mineral sectors, and the use of the ‘balance of probabilities’ standard.
