Project Description

Proposals are welcome to examine transnational networks of fashion production, circulation and consumption in non-Western cities. Including: the increasing transnational interaction in the manufacturing and circulation of goods, which has become prevalent in the making of fashion. How fashion is made in the trans-global landscape? How transnational socio-cultural interchange shapes the making of fashion? How fashion has been produced, circulated and consumed under the rubric of transnational dynamics? The study of these phenomenon, from a broad period of the 19th Century to the present time in non-Western cities is welcomed . The proposer should specify the timeframe of the study they are interested in undertaking.

Please note eligibility requirement:

* Academic excellence of the proposed student i.e. normally an Honours Degree: 1st or 2:1 (or equivalent) or possession of a Masters degree, with merit (or equivalent study at postgraduate level). Applicants may also be accepted on the basis of relevant and substantial practitioner/professional experience.

* Appropriate IELTS score, if required (evidence required by 1 August).

Funding Notes

The studentship includes a full stipend, paid for three years at RCUK rates (in 2016/17 this is £14,296 pa) and fees (Home/EU £4,350 / International £13,000).
