In advanced manufacturing sensor data must be used to achieve the increasingly tight tolerance requirements required for the latest products.
The problem is that many manufacturing processes and machine environments are not conducive to the use of existing sensor technologies. Space is often limited and the sensor must cope with vibration, heat, liquid, debris and other contamination.
This PhD project will investigate the use of the fiber optic based sensors, to meet the challenging demands for measurement of critical features such as size, shape and surface finish in harsh environments space limited environments.
Entry requirements part one:
Applicants should have, or expect to achieve, at least a 2:1 Honours degree (or equivalent) in: - Optical Engineering - Manufacturing Engineering - Mechanical Engineering
Entry requirements part two:
A relevant Master's degree and / or experience in one or more of the following will be an advantage: - Optical Engineering - Manufacturing Engineering - Mechanical Engineering
