Funded PhD Project (European/UK Students Only)
About the Project
We are delighted to invite applications for a prestigious THIS Institute PhD fellowship with Dr Liz Steed at Queen Mary University of London and Professor Jeff Bezemer at University College London. The successful applicant will be part of the IMP2ART programme team (https://www.aukcar.ac.uk/what-we-do/our-research/imp2art) and will develop an independent project to explore and understand the role and actions of facilitators in supporting primary care to implement supported asthma self-management. The PhD will contribute to the process evaluation of this large multicenter trial.
The student will adopt a range of methodologies and will have the opportunity to work and train in the novel area of video ethnography as applied to healthcare improvement. The applicant will have particular interest in qualitative research and health improvement science and may have clinical experience within the healthcare context. As the project will require data collection from primary care sources across England and Scotland a flexible approach to travel will be essential.
The fellowship provides the candidate with support and training from the THIS Institute in addition to those at the host institute. Also the candidate will be eligible to apply for affiliate status to The Asthma UK Centre for Applied Research (AUKCAR:
www.aukcar.ac.uk) a virtual UK-wide Centre focussing on developing, testing and implementing interventions which have the potential to achieve substantial, sustained reductions in asthma morbidity and mortality. The centre offers unsurpassed networking opportunities with leading UK applied asthma researchers and training with a vibrant and active group of fellow PhD students.
