About the Project
Ovarian ageing and menopause are naturally occurring processes, resulting not only in infertility but also increased susceptibility to a number of life-changing diseases, including osteoporosis and cardiovascular disease. Despite the huge impact on the quality of life that menopause brings, we know surprisingly little about the mechanisms controlling this process. This project will combine cell biology, mouse/human genetics and cutting-edge super resolution imaging techniques, to investigate the role of the neuroendocrine system on ovarian ageing.
The outcomes of this project will shed light on how pituitary hormones control ovarian ageing and highlight potential therapeutic strategies for prolonging ovarian lifespan.
The project will be hosted by the Institute for Medical and Biomedical Education (IMBE) under the supervision of Dr Kim Jonas and Dr Soo-Hyun Kim.
Minimum qualification is a UK BSc (Honours) degree at 2:1 or EU equivalent and a minimum IELTS score of 6.5 overall (with no section less than 6.0) if required.
