An exciting opportunity exists for UK and EU students to undertake a fully funded PhD (includes stipend) which is being jointly funded by the University of Nottingham the Quantum Pharma Group http://www.quantumpharmagroup.com/.
Healthcare delivery in England is changing. The NHS England five year forward view provides a blue print for new ways of delivering care to patients to maximise outcomes for patients and the NHS. This includes a drive towards innovative community and preventative health management services. In the Nottingham area a local pharmacy has partnered with a social care provider to provide a new model of medicines support in the community. Traditionally community social care support workers play little or no part in medication management assistance and patients currently face a number of issues as no one agency takes the lead in supporting medication use.
In this new model, the community pharmacy takes the central management position for medication management. Their role is to dispense medicines through Quantum Pharma Group’s innovative medicines delivery system (MDS), Biodose® http://biodose.co.uk/index.php as well as its telehealth MDS, Biodose Connect® to support both the patient and the social care provider to optimise the use of medicines.
This raises a number of interesting areas for research including how the new medication management service is implemented, the change in the professional roles and relationships and how Biodose and Biodose Connect® technologies contribute to service redesign and outcomes. In this PhD we will explore and describe the new model of service and understand the factors leading to success for wider dissemination.
It is likely that this PhD will involve a programme of qualitative or mixed methods research, aimed at understanding the change in practice. This will be co-designed by the student and the supervisors. Full research training will be provided at the University of Nottingham.
Applications are invited from individuals who have or expect to gain a first or high upper second class undergraduate or high merit or distinction level masters degree in an appropriate discipline. Applications would be welcomed from students with clinical and non-clinical backgrounds alike, including applicants from social science backgrounds whose degrees contained significant research components. This PhD is available for a September 2016 start.
