About the Project

Current research suggests that a range of biomarkers, including mRNA and miRNA can be used for body fluid identification within sexual assault cases. In the analysis of forensic samples there are many physiological scenarios that may result in an altered expression of certain biomarkers, providing incorrect biological evidence. This project will seek to validate current and novel biomarkers across a range of body fluid samples to identify their suitability for use within forensic casework.
