About the Project

Project Description:

Augmented Reality (AR) refers to the real-time digital overlay of information over physical elements. This PhD project will be realised in the context of the EU H2020 project ARETE focusing on AR in education. One of the main goals of ARETE is to support multi-user interactions with AR technologies in three educational domains: STEM, English literacy skills, and Positive Behaviour Intervention. Through systematic application of Human-centred Design (HcD) and User Experience (UX) approaches, ARETE will deliver highly usable, useful and desirable AR technologies and contents, leading to a wider uptake and further stimulate their creative usage.

The main research challenge of this PhD project is to develop innovative and robust approaches to eliciting requirements from different stakeholders on applying AR technologies in the aforementioned educational domains and to designing and evaluating AR prototypes.

Entry requirements:
Essential:
• Holder of a UK Bachelor degree in Computer Science with a first or 2:1, or overseas equivalent qualification;
• Holder of a UK Master degree in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) with distinction or merit, or overseas equivalent qualification;
• Sound knowledge in Research Methods in HCI, Interaction Design, and User Experience;
• Excellent written and oral English language skills; the University of Leicester English language requirements apply where applicable;
Desirable:
• Basic programming skills for Augmented Reality (AR) development;
