Prof G Currie  Applications accepted all year round  Funded PhD Project (Students Worldwide)

About the Project

Applications are invited for a 4 year PhD studentship based at Warwick Business School, to study Innovation in Healthcare. A PhD scholarship is available commencing in October 2021.

The studentship includes:

  • Fees at the home rate: £4,560 pa (2021/22 rate)
  • A stipend of approximately £15,750 pa for 4 years (subject to confirmation of 2021/22 rates, will rise with inflation each year)

About the project

The PhD studentship is linked to a National Institute of Healthcare Research (NIHR) funded five year initiative (2019-2024), Applied Research Collaboration (ARC) West Midlands. Warwick Business School is part of the collaboration, which consists of Medical Schools in the Universities of Birmingham and Keele, and a wide range of NHS and social care providers and commissioners in the West Midlands, the latter representing empirical sites for research. ARC West Midlands is one of several ARCs funded nationally, intended to accelerate the translation of clinical evidence into frontline care in connection with long-term conditions. The cross-cutting research programme within NIHR ARC with which the studentship is connected, is led by Professor Graeme Currie, titled, ‘Organisational Science’; Professor Currie is also the Implementation Lead for the wider ARC West Midlands initiative. The Organisational Science theme works with and supports clinical academics, clinical practitioners and NHS and social care managers in translating clinical evidence into practice across the West Midlands in four substantive service domains: Long Term Conditions (led by Birmingham ); Acute Care Interfaces (led by Birmingham); Integrated Care in Youth Mental Health (led by Warwick) and Maternity (led by Birmingham).

Applications for the PhD studentship are invited, focusing upon organisation and management issues associated with translating evidence into frontline practice, and which might support healthcare innovation in these domains. Indicatively, PhD students might focus upon: diffusion of innovation; innovation leadership; implementation science; patient and public involvement; behavioural science; (lean) re-engineering of healthcare services; entrepreneurship and innovation; strategic change.
