Are you interested in advancing your career in health? Are you interested in how the health system and workplaces can support employees with health issues? Apply for this unique and exciting opportunity to obtain a PhD project within two world-class research centres, the Rosemary Bryant AO Research Centre in collaboration with the Centre for Workplace Excellence at the University of South Australia.
More than 70,000 working adults are diagnosed with cancer each year in Australia. With recent advances in treatments, it is becoming increasingly possible to continue working. Yet surprisingly, we know very little about the challenges and benefits of continuing to work during treatment. What works and what doesn’t for patients and health care workers. What works and what doesn’t in both workplaces and the health system? Identifying barriers and facilitators of wellbeing and the ability to continue working can have wide-ranging impacts for patients, organisations, and society.
This project has the potential to demonstrate psychosocial benefits to patients of continuing to work with cancer; reveal modifiable barriers in both the health system and organisations to enable patients to continue working; develop practices for nurses and clinicians to provide supporting mechanisms that enable patients to continue working; and indicate means for enhancing patient-centred care, a goal of Australian health systems.
Apply to join us and study what works in ‘working with cancer,’ integrating patients, nurses, doctors and organisations. This is an exceptional research degree project that can result in meaningful change to improve systems and the lives of people with cancer.
