A Saudi Arabian PhD usually takes up to 6 years (if including a Masters) and the average length is 5 years. Students are expected to complete a certain number of coursework modules before successfully proposing a dissertation topic, researching their thesis and submitting it for examination. This is publicly defended in front of four examiners. Many international programmes are offered in English.
An EngD is a professional doctorate in Engineering and related subjects. The qualification is equivalent to a PhD, but involves more vocational and practice-based elements, geared towards the needs of industry. Applicants are often based within a company whilst completing their doctorate.
