We have 8 skincare PhD Projects, Programmes & Scholarships for Self-funded Students

(Boots CTP) Development of Next Generation Peptide Location Fingerprinting for Enhanced Characterisation of Skin Ageing and Repair.

In skin, long-lived extracellular matrix (ECM) components in the dermis, and at the dermal-epidermal junction (DEJ) basement membrane, undergo a form of ageing where damage is gradually accumulated to their protein structures by mechanisms such as photo-oxidation (by ultraviolet radiation from the sun) and protease cleavage, leading to profound changes in tissue architecture and function. (Boots CTP) Characterising and modulating the circadian biology of sebocytes to promote healthy skin barrier function

Human skin provides a critical barrier to protect us against environmental insults and help us prevent excessive water loss. This barrier function is understood to be under rhythmic control between night and day and is maintained by a layer of lipids secreted on to the surface of the skin. The relationship between sensitive skin syndrome and the skin microflora

The project forms part of The Boots Company Collaborative Training Partnership (CTP), which aims to develop highly trained doctorate scientists with transferable research and business skills, who will contribute to the UK economy by solving bioscience challenges of the future. Read more

Understanding the sensory perception of topically applied products

The cosmetics industry relies on consumer’s evaluation of their products to understand if they are desirable. However, little research exists systematically exploring relationships between sensory perception of tactile properties, consumer liking, emotional response and physical rheology. Read more

Lipid-Based Conjugate Self-Assembly and Bioactivity

This ambitious research project is associated with an EPSRC Fellowship award to Prof Hamley. This project is underway and involves two postdoctoral researchers and another PhD student. Read more

Exploring the molecular mechanisms of skin aging process and understanding the relationship between skin aging and systemic aging

Applicants are invited for fully funded 3 years full time PhD studentships, starting from 1st February 2023, or 1st April 2023, or 1st October 2023 at latest, based in the School of Pharmacy, The University of Nottingham. Read more
