Quantitative Evaluation of Bioscaffold Cell Culture by Images from Confocal Laser Scanning Microscopy
Prof J Sun, Dr K Black, Dr K Huang
Applications accepted all year round

Funding Type

PhD Type

Micro to nano scale three-dimensional (3D) bioscaffold is widely used in cell biology research and tissue engineering. Such bioscaffolds can closely resemble the architectural microenvironment of natural tissue, compared to standard two-dimensional cell culture, promote the varied levels of cell proliferation.
MRC DiMeN Doctoral Training Partnership: Nanoinjection: a novel single molecule technique to study alpha-synuclein amyloid toxicity inside neurons
  Dr E W Hewitt, Dr P Actis, Prof S E Radford
Application Deadline: 6 January 2020

Funding Type

PhD Type

Project Aims. The aim of this project is to use nanoinjection to perform the quantitative delivery of alpha-synuclein fibrils or oligomers into the cytoplasm of neurons and then determine how many of each is required to induce cellular stress and death.
Super resolution imaging of DNA damage and repair - Interdisciplinary Single Molecule Biology PhD
  Dr D Whelan
Application Deadline: 3 December 2019

Funding Type

PhD Type

Summary. A fully funded La Trobe University PhD scholarship is available in the Whelan Single-Molecule Biophysics group, to be undertaken at the Bendigo campus within the La Trobe Institute for Molecular Science (LIMS).
Virus manipulation of host cell micro-RNAs to regulate gene expression
Research Group: BBSRC White Rose DTP
Dr A MacDonald, Prof A Whitehouse
Application Deadline: 6 January 2020

Funding Type

PhD Type

micro-RNAs (miRNAs) are abundant endogenous RNAs and emerging evidence suggests they regulate gene expression by multiple processes.
GW4 BioMed MRC DTP PhD studentship: Structure of ART Toxins: understanding toxicity through host receptor interactions
Prof R Mrsny, Dr G Masuyer
Application Deadline: 25 November 2019

Funding Type

PhD Type

This project is one of a number that are in competition for funding from the ‘GW4 BioMed MRC Doctoral Training Partnership’ which is offering up to 18 studentships for entry in September 2020.
Stimulating the sirtuin family in the treatment of cancer.
  Dr P Ragazzon
Applications accepted all year round

Funding Type

PhD Type

Every year, thousands of people face cancer diagnosis. Survival rates are high, but many face devastating disabilities and long-term side effects resulting from currently treatments.
Wellcome Trust Integrated Molecular, Cellular and Translational Biology PhD Training Programme

Funding Type

PhD Type

The Wellcome Trust Integrated molecular, cellular and translational biology programme combines scientific excellence with a commitment to improving the working environment and transition support for trainees.
Structure and function of CIZ1/RNA complexes
  Prof D Coverley, Prof A A Antson
Application Deadline: 5 January 2020

Funding Type

PhD Type

X chromosome inactivation (XCI) serves as a model for establishment and. maintenance of selective transcriptional silencing throughout the genome.
Cloning and expression of topoisomerase genes from Trypanosoma brucei (SteverdingD-2U19SF)
  Dr D Steverding
Application Deadline: 31 May 2020

Funding Type

PhD Type

Topoisomerases (TOPs) are essential enzymes that catalysis topological changes in DNA. TOPs are pivotal to cell survival and therefore inhibitors have been developed to target these enzymes both for antimicrobial and anti-cancer chemotherapy.
Regulation of the actin cytoskeleton in health and disease
  Dr J Gallop
Application Deadline: 25 November 2019

Funding Type

PhD Type

An understanding of the actin cytoskeleton is critical for determining how cells connect to each other, move and have a distinct architecture.
