Ligament and tendon repair using a specific population of joint progenitor cells
  Prof D Chan
Applications accepted all year round

Funding Type

PhD Type

Ligaments and tendons stabilize the musculoskeletal system, controlling mobility. Anterior cruciate ligament in knee joints restrict the dimension of joint movement, while Achilles tendon transmit forces from calf muscle to bone enabling locomotion of ankle joints.
GW4 BioMed MRC DTP PhD studentship: Using nanotechnology, structural biology and genome editing to study how fungal receptors promote the spread of lethal diseases
  Dr N Brown
Application Deadline: 25 November 2019

Funding Type

PhD Type

This project is one of a number that are in competition for funding from the ‘GW4 BioMed MRC Doctoral Training Partnership’ which is offering up to 18 studentships for entry in September 2020.
Multimerisation of ELAV/Hu proteins – a key mechanism ensuring specificity for RNA recognition in health and disease
Dr M Soller, Dr T Knowles
Applications accepted all year round

Funding Type

PhD Type

Aims. Determine the structure of the ELAV dodecameric complex bound to target RNA by cryoEM and functionally probe interaction interfaces in vitro and in vivo in transgenic Drosophila models for neurodegeneration and cancer.
EASTBIO Biophysical properties of a nucleo-protein mesh
Research Group: Institute of Cell Biology
Dr A Cook, Prof N Gilbert
Application Deadline: 5 January 2020

Funding Type

PhD Type

In mammalian cells DNA is packaged with proteins to form chromatin – a complex macromolecular structure. Many of the components required for packaging chromatin are known, but how they assemble and function in health and disease are still a mystery.
