International PhD Programme in Molecular Life Sciences

Funding Type

PhD Type

The Vienna Biocenter (VBC) PhD Programme in Life Sciences has been running since 1993, providing students from all over the world with excellent training.
Direct observation of the structure and function of cooperatively assembled membrane spanning pores formed by antimicrobial peptides
Dr O Castell, Dr Y Jin, Prof A Jones, Dr PD Watson
Application Deadline: 5 June 2020

Funding Type

This project will combine multiple single molecule imaging techniques applied to model membranes [1] to study the mechanisms of peptide interaction of established and novel AMPs.
Building bionanohybrid circuits: understanding and applying single protein molecule function
Prof J E Macdonald, Dr D Jones, Dr O Castell
Application Deadline: 5 June 2020

Merging ideas and principles from biology with the physical sciences has proved pivotal in improving our fundamental understanding of nature and the generation of new technologies that impact on our everyday lives.
Molecular mechanism of innate immunity mediated by the Toll/IL1 receptor signalling pathways.
  Prof N J Gay
Applications accepted all year round

Funding Type

PhD Type

This group participates in the Wellcome Trust 4 year PhD programme in Developmental biology., MRC and BBSRC Doctoral Training Programmes.
Structure, regulation and dynamics of small G proteins and their interactions with membranes and effector proteins
  Dr H Mott
Applications accepted all year round

Funding Type

PhD Type

Our lab are interested in cell signalling via small G proteins of the Ras superfamily. We use a range of biochemical, biophysical and structural approaches to understand these fascinating proteins, which are involved in multiple cellular processes and are often deregulated in diseases such as cancer.
Understanding how the NuRD complex regulates 3D genome organization using a combination of single-molecule super-resolution imaging and single cell biology
  Prof E D Laue
Applications accepted all year round

Funding Type

PhD Type

The spatial organisation of the genome is known to play an important role in regulating RNA transcription to effect cell-type-specific gene expression programs, and to control the differentiation of embryonic stem (ES) cells.
