WR DTP fully-funded project: Developing phage therapy to reduce plant pathogen virulence

Plant pathogenic bacteria cause considerable losses to food production. This project will develop a novel biocontrol approach to reduce the virulence of plant pathogenic Ralstonia solanacearum bacterium (causative agent of bacterial wilt) using phages – viral parasites of the pathogen. Read more

ACCE DTP fully-funded project: Genetic consequences of climate change-induced range shifts in Aricia butterflies

Lead Supervisor: Prof Chris Thomas (University of York Department of Biology). Co-supervisor:  Dr Kanchon Dasmahapatra (University of York Department of Biology), Dr David Roy (CEH) Dr Rachel Pateman (University of York Department of Environment and Geography). Read more

WR DTP fully-funded project: Dissecting the molecular machine responsible for singular antigen expression and immune evasion in African trypanosomes using cryoEM.

In the host-pathogen arms race, antigenic variation is one of the most powerful and highly sophisticated virulence mechanisms. Some of the deadliest parasites, such as African trypanosomes and malaria parasites, are able to systematically alter the identity of proteins displayed to the host immune system. Read more
