The next generation of Tissue Repair experts

Our programme aims to train the next generation of scientific leaders in tissue repair. Successful advancement of tissue repair relies on combining expertise from basic to translational research in areas of regenerative medicine, stem cell biology, neurology, reproductive health, inflammation and cardiovascular science. Such a cross-disciplinary approach will underpin the design of novel cell- and drug-based therapies that stimulate repair of tissues damaged due to disease, trauma or congenital conditions.

Comprehensive training programme

The Tissue Repair PhD Programme is a four-year training programme, following the format of six months/three years/six months. During the first six months you will broaden your knowledge of tissue repair through discussion groups and seminars, core skills training and two 12-week laboratory rotations in affiliated Research Centres.

Following these first six months you will choose the topic of your PhD research project and select your primary- and secondary PhD supervisor. To ensure a comprehensive training you will attend lab meetings and seminars by internal and invited speakers throughout the programme. During the last six months of the programme you will focus on writing your thesis and preparing for your final examination.

Studentship offers support for stipend, fees and research costs

Successful applicants are awarded a four-year Tissue Repair studentship, which includes a stipend, tuition fees (at the UK/EU rate), and contributions towards research costs for their rotation and PhD projects. The studentship also provides funds for travel and training, including related to transferable skills and professional development. Details can be found on our website.

Application process Studentships are awarded competitively. Applicants should hold at least an upper second class degree or equivalent in biomedical sciences. Applicants are asked to submit the following documents once a recruitment round opens:
