PhD Scholarship opportunities available

Funding Availability: The School have a number of competitive scholarship’s available from the ESRC, NERC, and also through the University of Kent’s Vice Chancellor’s Research Scholarships fund.

The School of Anthropology and Conservation (SAC) at the University of Kent invites applications from outstanding candidates for our range of competitive PhD scholarship opportunities. On average the School is granted around 15 awards each year through a range of scholarship competitions.

The School has an international reputation for the research of its academic staff, many of whom are leaders in their respective fields. Its vibrant research culture provides excellent opportunities for postgraduate study and the breadth of expertise within the School enables us to offer research supervision across a wide range of topics. You are encouraged to visit our staff pages to identify a potential supervisor with whom your research interests align.

NERC EnvEast Doctoral Training Partnership - application deadline 8 January 2018

The School are delighted to have three projects shortlisted for funding by the EnvEast DTP:

  • Assessment of the outcomes of biodiversity offset projects under ‘no net loss’ policy – Dr Joseph William Bull
  • Population drivers, demographics and disease in wild snake populations – Professor Richard Griffiths
  • Monitoring responses of tropical vertebrates to land-use change using acoustic technologies – Dr Matt Struebig

Successful candidates who meet RCUK’s eligibility criteria will be awarded a NERC studentship. In most cases, UK and EU nationals who have been resident in the UK for 3 years are eligible for a full award. In 2017/18, the maintenance grant was £14,533.

PhD Scholarship opportunities available

ESRC South East Network for Social Sciences (SeNSS) – application deadline 21 January 2018

SAC is a member of two pathways within this centre of research excellence providing innovative and challenging world-class doctoral training: Social Anthropology and; Science, Technology and Sustainability Studies. Studentships cover fees, a maintenance grant and access to further research funding and are open to UK/EU students who meet the residential criteria.

Kent Vice Chancellor’s Research Scholarships – application deadline 21 January 2018

Open to applicants from the fields of social anthropology, environmental anthropology, biological anthropology or biodiversity conservation. We particularly welcome applicants who wish to undertake interdisciplinary projects relevant to the School’s research culture. Scholarships cover Home/EU tuition rate plus a maintenance grant (£14,553 in 2017/18).
