The Department of Management, Economics and Industrial Engineering of Politecnico di Milano is currently seeking applicants for full-time PhD positions in the field of Management Engineering.

The Ph.D. Program in Management Engineering (DRIG) offers students the best set-up to carry out high-quality research at the intersection between management, economics and industrial engineering. Ph.D. graduates from DRIG are also well equipped with distinctive skills and advanced knowledge to pursue a professional career in manufacturing and service companies, regulatory authorities and other public bodies. The program allows the student to develop a sound methodological background and multidisciplinary knowledge by attending courses designed to provide a multiplicity of visions, theories and approaches, a broad cultural panorama. The program emphasizes the benefit of studying problems in an innovative manner, combining various analytical approaches and research methodologies.

Fifteen fully-funded scholarships will be available for next cohort starting in November 2018.

ORIENTED SCHOLARSHIPS

Seven scholarships will be assigned according to the Department’s research lines where priority will be given to the following topics:

  • Advanced design and planning for rapid reconfiguration of production systems
  • Cost-effective adaptive lifecycle management of infrastructure systems;
  • Global and Sustainabile Supply Chain and Purchasing Management – in memory of Prof. Gianluca Spina;
  • Institutions, micro-founded strategies and the internationalisation of innovative start-ups;
  • Leading-edge developments in entrepreneurship research;
  • Policy and Innovation for social impact;
  • Radical Innovation: leveraging on the interplay between technologies and meanings
  • Seed and start-up finance;
  • Sustainability of industrial Systems: boosting the improvement

TOPIC SCHOLARSHIPS

Eight topic scholarships will be offered in the context of the below specific research projects:

  • Acquisitions by small and young firms: the implementation challenge (a 4-year Double Degree Politecnico di Milano/CBS Copenaghen Business School)
  • Aligning New Product Development and Supply Chain Management;
  • Assessing gender biases through data analytic in entrepreneurial and organization contexts (an interdisciplinary programme run in cooperation with the Department of Information Technology);
  • Cultural Impact Assessment in the digital era;
  • Factory Logistics: new logistics models enabled by innovative technologies;
  • Innovation and policy for the circular use of water resources;
  • Internationalisation and skills in the digital era;
  • Using Biometrics to enrich consumer decision-making process models.

Those specific themes can be chosen during the application procedure by selecting them singularly.

INTERDISCIPLINARY SCHOLARSHIPS

One interdisciplinary scholarship will be offered with the aim of supporting interdisciplinary research within Politecnico di Milano involving the cooperation between two different departments. Our PhD programme will be involved in the following interdisciplinary research projects:

  • Assessing gender biases through data analytic techniques for promoting diversity and inclusion in entrepreneurial and organization contexts

The candidate interested in one of the doctoral researches mentioned above (Topic and Interdisciplinary) should apply online to run for the scholarship and opt for the selected topic by following the instructions provided in the application.

The attainment of the PhD title in Management Engineering requires full time study and research activity of at least three years.

The scholarship covers tuition fees, office space, access to library, software and databases.

Candidates are offered their own research budget for travelling and they receive additional funds for study periods in top foreign universities.

Opportunities of teaching and tutoring MSc students are also foreseen.

We are searching for talented candidates with strong analytical and (qualitative and quantitative) methodological skills, who are eager to engage in research projects of relevance for both industry and academia.
