The next tranche of funding from the EPSRC is currently being reviewed for all CDT’s in the UK including the CDT in Catalysis, however the CDT in Catalysis is inviting applications for 2019/20 intake as expressions of interest. The results of successful funding grants will be released at the end of 2018. If successful, the CDT will be interviewing in February. Further details to be released.

This course is run by the Catalysis Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT). The University's of Bath, Bristol and Cardiff work closely together to train and educate based on the distinctive but complementary areas of Catalysis expertise within Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at these three institutions.

Course Aims

Some of society’s biggest challenges can be addressed through catalysis: clean energy generation, environmental clean-up of air and water and sustainable manufacture. The CDT offers postgraduate training in Catalysis and Reaction Engineering to benefit society and to meet the current and future needs of UK Catalysis. This interdisciplinary programme will give students advanced knowledge of traditional and emerging catalysis disciplines, an understanding of industry and global contexts whilst teaching research and professional skills.

To further develop your professional skills and expand your CV you will also become involved in organising seminars and workshops, engaging in outreach activities and leading a committee to organise a student led day at a conference.

Course Description

The first year of the course is an MRes, this is run across all three partner universities. You will then opt to do your PhD research in one of the three universities, with either an industrial project or a supervisor in another partner university. These research projects will involve spending time in international industrial or academic labs. This makes your research truly interdisciplinary. During your research you will still have access to labs and facilities across the three universities. You will also engage with industry through industrial seminars, workshops, site visits and mentoring.

Entry Requirements

Candidates should possess a degree in a relevant subject area, such as 2:1 or higher in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering or the equivalent. Additionally, applicants should hold or be about to obtain a relevant postgraduate qualification such as an MChem or MSc in Chemistry, or the equivalent.

Available Funding

The CDT is fully funded for 4 year duration including 1 year MRes and 3 years research. This includes full University fees, a stipend and a travel allowance. We are only able to offer fully funded places to UK and EU residents.
