MRC London Intercollegiate Doctoral Studentships 2018/19

The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine together with St George’s, University of London are delighted to be offering nine fully-funded PhD studentships for the 2018/19 academic year.

Overview

London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and St George's, University of London have formed the London Intercollegiate Doctoral Training Partnership (MRC LID).

This partnership brings together two outstanding specialist institutions to provide integrated skills training to develop a cohort of biomedical and public health scientists with world-class expertise in areas of strategic importance to UK and global medical research.

Our training programme covers three main priority areas:

• Global Infectious Disease
• Quantitative Skills for Large Data Sets
• Evaluating Complex Interventions

Routes

These nine studentship awards are available on the 3.5 year PhD programme for candidates with relevant Master’s or equivalent training. Successful candidates will benefit from specialised research training, personal mentorship and cohort activities that are provided through the MRC LID DTP.

Funding

The MRC LID Studentship covers tuition fees at the Home/EU rate, an annual stipend at the current MRC rate with London weighting, and a generous allowance for research consumables and conference travel.

Eligibility

These studentships are open to applicants who would be assessed to have UK/EU fee status, and who meet the MRC’s residency requirements (to be eligible for a Studentship award applicants must have been ordinarily resident in the UK throughout the 3-year period immediately preceding 1 September 2017).

Applicants must also hold, or expect to obtain, a 1st or 2.1 Honours degree. They should also preferably hold, or expect to obtain, a relevant Masters, or have a combination of relevant qualifications and experience which demonstrates equivalent ability and attainment. This may include a period of employment or internship in a relevant environment. Some projects have additional specific requirements. These are outlined in the project’s detailed information.
