The Maclaurin Scholarship for Postgraduate Research and Teaching

Salary & stipend: £20,000 per annum and Full Fee Waiver £4,183 per annum (Teaching, Grade 6)

This post has been created to provide an opportunity for a talented student to undertake study for a PhD in the mathematical sciences while simultaneously gaining teaching experience by contributing to the School’s extensive teaching programme. In order to allow research and teaching to be undertaken simultaneously, the post is funded for 5 years. The salary/stipend is above the standard level of a research studentship to reflect the additional responsibilities involved. The teaching component of the post will be supported by training and mentoring and it is intended that the job prospects of the post-holder will be enhanced by the extended skills and experience gained. A PhD project can be pursued in any area of the School’s research interests.

The School has exceptional research breadth and depth across the mathematical sciences and was ranked 8th in the UK for research intensity in REF 2014. The School employs over 50 researchers and hosts a very lively community of over 50 PhD students. PhD research projects cover a very wide spread of topics in mathematics and statistics, including interdisciplinary work with a variety of partners inside and outside the University.
