University of South Wales – PhD Scholarship in Computer Science

The University of South Wales is inviting applications for a funded PhD scholarship in Computer Science. The successful applicant will be based in the School of Computing and Mathematics, which is located in the Faculty of Computing, Engineering and Science (FCES). Computer science research at the University shares an applied focus across a wide spectrum of application areas and a strong engagement with users from business, government, community organisations and international collaborations.

The call is open to PhD applications in areas of current research in Computer Science and Informatics in the School. We are particularly interested in applications in the broad areas of AI, GIS, HCI, biomedical computing, security and forensics, computer support for minority languages. The successful candidate will be given the opportunity to help shape the research subject pursued in collaboration with researchers in that area.

Scholarship details

3 years home/EU full-time fees will be paid by the University, together with a bursary of £14,777 per annum.

The successful applicant will be offered research postgraduate skills development sessions.

Deadline

The closing date for applications is 25th June 2018. Interviews will be held in July 2018. Expected start date: 1st October 2018 (subject to discussion).

Eligibility

Home/EU graduates are eligible to apply. Applicants should hold a first-class or upper second class degree in a computing-related area.

Applicants should include in the personal statement that the application is for a PhD in Computer Science. Applicants should submit a research proposal outlining the research questions, relevant previous work, methods and timeframe for completion of the research. Proposals should clearly explain the original contribution to knowledge.
