Thomas Gerald Gray Charitable Trust - PhD Studentships

Applications are invited for four full-time PhD Studentships funded collaboratively by the College of Engineering, Design and Physical Sciences (CEDPS) and the Thomas Gerald Gray Charitable Trust (TGG Trust). The PhD studentships are for a period of three (3) years effective 1st October 2016. The successful applicant will receive an annual stipend (bursary) of £14,296 plus payment of their full time tuition fees.

In order to meet the eligibility criteria of the TGG Trust, the PhD studentships can only be offered to UK nationals who are eligible to pay home tuition fees.

Eligibility

Applicants will have or be expected to receive a 2:1 or 1st class degree in an engineering, design or related discipline. A Masters qualification is an advantage but not essential.

Project Details

Applicants should submit a proposal for a research project in the broad fields of Civil Engineering, Design, Electronic & Computer Engineering or Manufacturing & Mechanical Engineering. Engineering led projects with a mathematical or computer sciences component will also be considered. Informal enquires may be addressed to cedps-pgr-office@brunel.ac.uk

How to Apply

Please e-mail your application comprising of all the documents listed below to cedps-pgr-office@brunel.ac.uk by Noon on Monday 25th July 2016:

  • Your up-to-date CV;
  • A maximum 500 word document setting out ideas for your research project including :
    • Your project title (excluded from the word count);
    • Your area of research including draft research question(s) and a brief summary of what you see as the important issues arising. You may reference current literature and if you do, remember to include a bibliography (excluded from the word count) of the literature you have referenced;
    • Your reasons for research, i.e.: a summary of the factors that led to your interest and how you believe your research will contribute to knowledge in your area;
    • A summary of your research methods including how you will collect your data and where you will conduct your research;
  • A4 page statement setting out why you are a suitable candidate (i.e.: your skills and experience);
  • A copy of your highest degree certificate and transcript.
  • Names and contact details for two academic referees;

Interviews will take place during September 2016.
